More on Paving Contractor - Modesto, CA

When designing pavements, the main concerns are usually environmental factors and the drainage of the site. The 6 types of pavements are:
  • Conventionally reinforced pavements: They are reinforced with steel and their construction joints are braces with dowels
  • Continuously reinforced pavements: Their reinforcement are longitudinal steel and have no contraction joints
  • Pavements with dowels: The dowels prevent faults and facilitate transfer of loads
  • Pavements without dowels: Loads transfer is facilitated by aggregate interlock
  • Rigid pavements: They are characterized by flexural strength and slab action such that the load is spread over a broad area of the sub-grade. Steel reinforcement is used to secure the slabs.
  • Flexible pavements: No reinforcement is used here. The flexible strength of these pavements is negligible.

Significance of Control Joints
Once concrete pavers are placed and finished, joints are made to prevent cracks that normally results from expansion and contraction of the concrete material. These joints are made by sawing.

Texturing
After the insertion of joints, the pavement surface can be textured accordingly. The pavements require skid resistance and should be sufficient. Texturing is done only after the sheen of water evaporates and before the surface becomes inflexible. There are many techniques which can be used in texturing such as wire brooming, rolling, burlap drag, and so on. The exact technique used in texturing of pavers is influenced by the climate and the expected traffic. It starts right after finishing and must be timed for optimal outcomes.

Curing
The pavements are supposed to cure and the right method should be applied. Some curing techniques include use of plastic covers, liquid membranes, and waterproof plastic covers.
